There's always something to do in your garden.  Here are some timely tips.

Monarch butterflies will be making
their annual trek south soon. To
attract them to your garden and
provide food for them as they
make their journey, plant some

PLANTING:
Trees and shrubs should be planted now - May. Cooler
temperatures mean it's time to get out and work the
garden soil.

PERENNIALS:
Divide, transplant, or share your perennial divisions.  
Prune perennials for a new flush of color.

ANNUALS:
Plant now for fall, winter, and spring color.  Pansy,
cabbage, kale, dianthus, and snapdragons will give your
garden long lasting color through May.

VEGETABLE: Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower,
cabbage, Chinese cabbage, chard, collards, endive,
kale, lettuce, mustard

HERBS: Plants: All perennial herb plants; plus cilantro,
dill, fennel, parsley Seed: Borage, caraway, chamomile,
chervil, chives, cilantro, dill, fennel, parsley, summer
savory

LAWNS:
Watch out for brown patch in the lawn. Fall is the prime
season for this fungal disease.

PRUNING:
Dead limbs should be removed anytime during the year.

COMPOST:
Start or add to the compost pile.

MISCELLANEOUS:
Clean out the shed, sharpen the tools, and prepare for
next month's gardening chores.
